A Republican National Committee panel is recommending Charlotte, N.C. as the site of the 2020 GOP Convention, Politico is reporting.
The website attributed its information to a senior Republican familiar with the talks.
The RNC is expected to finalize the selection when it meets on Friday in Austin, Texas, Politico said.
The Charlotte City Council had voted on Monday to approve preliminary contracts needed to host the convention, The Hill noted.
Charlotte is one of two cities bidding to host the convention. The other city is Las Vegas, the web site reported.
Other cities have rejected the chance to host the convention, citing security costs and possible disruptions in the flow of business and traffic.
Politico noted the Democrats have not yet announced the site for their convention.
