Rite Aid drug stores will be hosting licensed insurance agents at almost 2,000 locations to help customers understand the Obamacare health-insurance exchanges.
CVS, Walgreens, and WebMD also will be part of the educational effort.
Starting Oct. 1 — when the exchanges are to begin enrolling Americans in health insurance coverage through the Affordable Care Act, agents at Rite Aid stores will help individuals compare healthcare plans and help them sign up for health insurance. No appointments are necessary.
The Pennsylvania-based company's 4,600 pharmacies will provide visitors with brochures and other written materials on the new healthcare law, as well as offer
information on its website.
Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius spoke Monday at a Rite Aid store in Hoboken, N.J., with CEO John Standley,
Politico reported.
"We know that in order for all of this to work, we can't rely on Washington alone," Sebelius said. "That was never the plan.
"Instead, we're bringing together pharmacies like Rite Aid, along with healthcare providers, community groups, advocates, businesses and public servants," she said. "All of these groups are working in their own communities to educate and help enroll their neighbors in affordable coverage."
