An abortion rights group handed out flyers and helped post "This Neighborhood Trusts Women" lawn signs in Vice President-elect Mike Pence's temporary neighborhood in Washington, D.C., specifically targeting the locale as Pence does not support abortion rights, according to The Hill.
The group, NARAL Pro-Choice America, knocked on doors to see if neighbors were interested in "making a statement," NARAL communications director Kaylie Hanson Long told The DCist on Friday.
"Part of our charge following the election is making sure that Mike Pence knew just how off base he was with the majority of Americans when it comes to abortion access," Long said. "The best way to let him know that is to go literally right to his door step and tell him."
Pence rented a home in the Chevy Chase neighborhood in late November and, within days, some neighbors installed rainbow flags to show support for LGBT rights.
Pence has opposed gay rights in the past.
Deputy field organizer Anne Bailey told the DCist neighbors were "glad to have a way to show their resistance to the anti-choice and anti-woman agenda."
