Analyst: Michigan Gov. Snyder May Face Recall Vote in 2013

Thursday, 27 December 2012 02:59 PM EST

Michigan Republican Rick Snyder could be the next governor to face a recall vote.

Wisconsin’s Scott Walker survived a recall election in June.

“There doesn’t seem to be a specific goal of going after state legislatures or state governors in any significant way, though that might change in Michigan because of right-to-work [legislation],” Joshua Spivak, a senior fellow at Wagner College’s Institute for Government Reform, told Politico.

Snyder signed a right-to-work law in Michigan earlier this month.

Snyder’s opponents would have more difficulty mounting a recall challenge than Walker’s did, Spivak says. That’s because Michigan, like most other states, permits signatures on recall petitions only from registered voters. Wisconsin accepts signatures from any eligible voter.
