Florida's two-term GOP Gov. Rick Scott has opened up a six-point lead on incumbent Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson, according to a new poll.
The poll from the Florida Atlantic University gives Scott 45 percent, Nelson 39 percent, with 16 percent of voters undecided. The university's last poll in July had Scott leading Nelson by 4 points.
The 6-point lead is the biggest yet for either candidate. RealClearPolitics' averaging gives Scott a 1.5-point edge over Nelson in the Nov. 6 election.
The latest poll points to solid Republican support for Scott, but also from Independent voters, who pick him by a 19-point margin 44-25 percent, Florida Politics noted.
The poll’s margin of error is plus or minus 3.4 percentage points.
