Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott's office is teasing a "major announcement" set for April 9 as speculation mounts he will run for the U.S. Senate, Politico reports.
Scott's office would not comment further on the nature of the announcement. But Politico noted it has been an open secret for months that Scott, who is facing term-limits as governor, has been eyeing the seat now held by Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla.
President Donald Trump encouraged Scott to run early last year and again in the fall.
Scott is said to be worth nearly $150 million.
Meanwhile, Politico noted Jackie Schutz Zeckman, Scott's chief of staff, resigned her post on Monday. She would not comment on the move.
