Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg must be subpoenaed if he changes his mind about testifying before Congress about security issues, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said Wednesday on CNN's "New Day."
"Facebook has a problem with truth and with trust," Blumenthal said. "It never, very alarmingly, told the users that their data was out there potentially at risk. That is deeply concerning."
"I think the Facebook attitude has been 'Trust us. We know better,'" Blumenthal said when anchor Alisyn Camerota asked what Facebook's attitude has been about transparency.
The senator cautioned users about protecting their information online. "I wouldn't advise people on whether to delete Facebook accounts, but they should take precaution about the use of their information, about how they safeguard it, and whether they agree to apps," he said.
"That's the problem they have with trust. Now they need to accept rules of the road that, in effect, regulate their business model. Their business model is to sell information about you and me without our knowledge or consent."
