Major Cash Advantage for GOP Candidates

Chalk up another fundraising advantage on the Republican side of the ledger. Republican Senate candidates began October with $50 million of cash to spend compared to $33.6 million for Democrats in the top 20 races, Politico reports. That advantage has likely increased in the past two weeks.

The discrepancy indicates the advantage Republicans hold in many races.

In the 20 races surveyed, only three Democrats bested their Republican opponent in third-quarter fundraising — Sen. Michael Bennet of Colorado, who topped Republican Ken Buck by about $700,000, Sen. Barbara Boxer of California, who beat Republican Carly Fiorina by around $300,000, and Sen. Russ Feingold of Wisconsin who outpaced Republican Ron Johnson.

Six Democratic candidates had less than $1 million left to spend in October — Brad Ellsworth in Indiana, Elaine Marshall in North Carolina, Paul Hodes in New Hampshire, Kendrick Meek in Florida, Scott McAdams in Alaska, and Lee Fisher in Ohio.
