Republicans are wasting no time in their effort to retake the Senate, with challengers already stepping forward in Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, and Pennsylvania, the
Washington Post reports. The paper’s column, The Fix, reports that one reason for the early entries is that 23 Democrats are up for reelection in 2012 compared to 10 Republicans.

According to the Post, the announced challengers include former Missouri Treasurer Sarah Steelman, who will take on Sen. Claire McCaskill, D-Mo.,
(pictured) Nebraska Attorney General Jon Bruning, who will take on Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., Montana businessman Steve Daines, who will take on Sen. Jon Tester, D-Mont., and in Pennsylvania former Senate staffer Marc Scaringi will take on Sen. Bob Casey Jr., D-Pa.
According to the Post, the early entrants are also being driven by the successes of the just finished 2010 campaign.
