GOP Group Has $50 Million in Bank for Gubernatorial Races

By    |   Monday, 27 January 2014 02:57 PM EST

The Republican Governors' Association is flush with $50 million in cash to bankroll GOP candidates in the November elections, USA Today reported Monday.

The RGA collected $50.3 million in 2013, double the amount the group raised for the 2010 races. Republicans hold 22 of the 36 gubernatorial seats up for grabs this year.

"Republican governors are acting boldly, making tough decisions and providing strong leadership for their states in a way that Washington simply is not," said New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, RGA chairman. He said the RGA is in a "strong position to support our candidates and governors this year."

Christie has been busy raising even more money for the group, despite his own troubles at home with Bridge-gate, when aides closed some lanes on the George Washington Bridge as political payback to a New Jersey mayor.

Christie recently toured Florida on a fundraising mission and will travel to six more states to do the same in the next few months.
