A national conference of conservatives in Louisiana is giving Republicans another opportunity to find a balance between the tea party and establishment powers.
Former GOP Chairman Haley Barbour and Utah Sen. Mike Lee are set to speak Friday at the Republican Leadership Conference. The three-day event opened Thursday in New Orleans.
Lee is a tea party favorite, as are many of the speakers at a conference where many delegates hail from the most conservative branches of the Republican Party. Barbour is a face of the party's old guard.
On Thursday, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal told the crowd that governors make the best presidents. Jindal is one of several potential GOP candidates for the White House race in 2016.
