A California law professor who advocates for reparations has joined Joe Biden’s White House transition as part of the Treasury Department team, the Washington Free Beacon reports.
University of California, Irvine School of Law professor Mehrsa Baradaran joined the Biden transition team on Monday to help the incoming administration "hit the ground running on Day One," according to the Free Beacon.
Baradaran previously criticized Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., his running mate, for avoiding questions on reparations during the Democrat primaries.
"Dear Kamala, Reparations or go home," she tweeted in June 2019.
She added in December, during one of the Democrat primary debates, that "Biden just dodged that reparations question like a much nimbler and younger man."
Baradaran presented her case for reparations in her 2017 book "The Color of Money: Black Banks and the Racial Wealth Gap," where she argues that reparations are necessary to help bridge the wealth gap between Black and white Americans.
"A reparations program could take many forms from simple cash payments or baby bonds to more complex schemes such as subsidized college tuition, basic income, housing vouchers, or subsidized mortgage credit," she wrote.
