Republicans Benefit From Redistricting

With Republicans in control of a majority of state governments, it stands to reason that GOP House members should fare better than Democrats in redistricting moves ahead of next year’s election. Indeed a list that The Hill compiled of the 10 members of Congress helped most by redistricting includes eight Republicans and only two Democrats.

Perhaps the biggest name on the list is House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan. His district skewed Democratic in recent years. And Democrats hoped to make an example of him for proposing Medicare reform. But redistricting made his territory safer, and Democrats seem resigned to a Ryan victory.
