Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul, who is expected to announce his candidacy in the race for president next week, has brought a veteran Republican pollster onto his campaign staff, according to a report.
Politico reports Paul, a Republican who has been in office since 2011, hired Tony Fabrizio to work on his campaign.
Paul will announce his White House plans on Tuesday in Louisville, to be followed by stops in New Hampshire, South Carolina, Iowa, and Las Vegas. He will reportedly speak in front of an aircraft carrier, the USS Yorktown docked in Charleston Harbor, during his South Carolina visit.
Fabrizio's resume includes a stint on former Texas Gov. Rick Perry's failed 2012 presidential campaign, and he also worked for Sen. Bob Dole during the 1996 campaign. He is currently one of Florida Gov. Rick Scott's top advisers, reports Politico.
Fabrizio joins Paul's growing campaign staff ahead of his official entrance into the race.
A report in February detailed his team, which includes a tight circle of nine trusted advisers and confidants that he hopes will help pave his way to the White House.
Paul will be the second major candidate to enter the race, behind Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, who declared his candidacy last week.
Several other Republicans are thinking about entering the presidential race, including former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio. Bush and Walker
have been the two favorites in early polling.
