Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., is introducing a bill that would makes tax cuts permanent for people in the U.S. armed forces.

"While we must work to make these cuts permanent for everyone, we should at least start with those who deserve it most — the men and women of our armed forces," Norman wrote in a column for the Washington Examiner.

While some parts of tax reform are permanent for troops, Norman's bill, the Permanently Amending Tax Cuts For Our Heroes (PATCH) Act, would make permanent modified tax brackets, lower rates, increases in the standard deduction, expanses of the child tax credit, and increased charitable deduction limits, Norman wrote.

"Our troops have sacrificed so much and put their lives on the line to ensure we enjoy our day-to-day liberties," Norman wrote. "We must remember to uphold our troops all the time."

In May, Norman introduced a bill that would block the National Science Foundation from studying how Congress members "interact with each other," calling it an exercise in government waste.
