Democratic West Virginia Gov. Joe Manchin has raised more than $3.3 million for his Senate bid, while Republican nominee John Raese has loaned his effort at least $1.4 million.
But both candidates' spending has been eclipsed by outside groups that have devoted $8.3 million and counting to their race.
Federal Election Commission filings show Manchin attracted $2.4 million between Aug. 9 and the end of September. He raised another $529,000 during the first 13 days of October. His campaign had spent $2.7 million as of Oct. 13.
Raese's spending as of Sept. 30 totaled $1.7 million, after he gathered $450,000 from donors. The Morgantown business owner had bolstered his bottom line with his personal wealth. The FEC has not yet posted any of his October figures.
