Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., holds a significant edge on his Democratic opponent Rep. Patrick Murphy, in the race for Florida's Senate seat, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll released Monday.
The results:
- Rubio: 50 percent.
- Murphy: 43 percent.
"Rubio's advantage is so large at this point that it's difficult to imagine Murphy winning even if Clinton wins the state," writes Harry Enten for FiveThirtyEight.
According to CBS News, the Republican establishment in Florida expect Rubio to run for president again in 2020, despite pledging to serve his full term as senator if reelected.
"If Hillary wins, that is the matchup Marco has been waiting for," David Johnson, former state GOP interim executive director, told CBS.
RealClearPolitics shows Rubio has led or tied his opponent in every poll since July.
