The 2024 presidential race is still very much up for grabs, according to the latest Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday.
Former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris are neck and neck, with Harris beating Trump 49%-47% in the survey of likely voters. Green Party candidate Jill Stein and Libertarian Party candidate Chase Oliver each received 1%.
A head-to-head matchup gives Harris a 1-point lead, with 49% supporting her versus 48% for Trump. All results are within the margin of error, making the race too close to call.
Quinnipiac University polling analyst Tim Malloy said in a press release, "Conventions done, debates in the planning, rhetoric getting rougher, there's a slight numerical difference, but it is essentially a tie as the presidential race roars toward November 5th."
Malloy added that "not much" had changed from a similar Quinnipiac poll last month, which gave Trump a 2-point lead over Harris (49-47%).
Thursday's poll found a significant gender gap: Women went 58% for Harris, 37% for Trump, a 21-point difference. Among men, 57% are for Trump, while 39% are for Harris.
The poll found that slightly more Democrats (98%) support Harris than Republicans support Trump (94%). Independent respondents were split evenly, with Harris and Trump each receiving 45%.
Quinnipiac surveyed 1,611 likely voters nationwide from Aug. 23-27, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
