Okla. AG Pruitt: 'Regulatory Rollback' Provides Hope, Makes DC 'Less Consequential'

By    |   Sunday, 20 November 2016 05:00 PM EST

Presidential-elect Donald Trump's incoming administration brings economic optimism and hope, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt says.

"There is going to be regulatory rollback," he told host John Catsimatidis on Sunday's "The Cats Roundtable." "Washington is going to be less consequential under Trump."

Pruitt, who has led lawsuits against regulators such as the Environmental Protection Agency, said he expects the EPA to "undergo substantial change" amid "regulatory rollback."

"Washington has become way too consequential in the lives of citizens across the country," Pruitt told Catsimatidis. "They've been dictating to the states, dictating to business, dictating to industry, sometimes outside of the Constitution and outside the congressional statute."

The financial industry has also been squelched during the big government Barack Obama administration, he said, citing Dodd-Frank regulations that have "put many community banks out of business," reducing their numbers from around 12,000 across the country to around 6,000.

"Entrepreneurs are going to have access to capital to grow their business, to grow jobs, and we should be very optimistic," Pruitt added.

"The greatest threat impediment to economic growth the last two or three years has been regulatory uncertainty.

"The greatest opportunity we have heading into this new administration, John, is to provide certainty to the business industries across this county that they know what's going to be expected of them, and we're going to become less onerous out of Washington and more trusting of the states and trusting the business."
