President Donald Trump touted his decision to impose new restrictions on federally funded family planning clinics like Planned Parenthood — and vowed to help elect pro-life Republicans at a dinner with activists Tuesday night.

Delivering the keynote address at the Susan B. Anthony Campaign for Life gala, Trump lamented that Americans have been "wrongly forced to subsidize the abortion industry through Title X funding."

"[Tuesday] we have kept another promise," he said. "My administration has proposed a new rule to prohibit Title X funding from going to any clinic that performs abortions. We're also seeking passage of the 20-week abortion bill, which would end painful late-term abortions nationwide."

Trump also pressed the need to elect more Republicans in midterm elections, noting "for the first time since Roe v. Wade, America has a pro-life president, a pro-life vice president, a pro-life House of Representatives, and 25 pro-life state capitals."

"Everyday between now and November we must work together to elect more lawmakers who share our values, cherish our heritage, and proudly stand for life,” he said.

Trump's speech garnered extended applause at several points — a sea change from the group's anti-Trump stance during the GOP primaries. SBA List President Marjorie Dannenfelser said in a statement ahead of the event that the organization was "honored to receive him at our annual Campaign for Life Gala."

"All my friends are out here," Trump said, as he took the stage Tuesday night.

Several congressional Republicans also attended the gala, including House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, and Rep. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., who is running for Senate this year.
