Sixty percent of likely voters under the age of 30 back Democratic nominee Joe Biden, with only 27% supporting President Donald Trump, according to a Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics poll released on Monday, NPR reported.
However, 56% of likely voters who back Trump are "very enthusiastic" about voting for him, while only 35% who support Biden are "very enthusiastic" about the choice of their candidate.
Other results from the poll indicate:
- Sixty-three percent said they will "definitely" be voting in November's election, a sharp increase from the 47% of young Americans who said they would definitely vote at the same time four years ago. Generation Z and millennial voter make up more than one-third of eligible voters this year.
- Young Americans expressed skepticism about a future vaccine for the coronavirus, with only 25% saying they would "definitely" get a vaccine and another 22% saying they "probably" would get it.
Trump has said that a vaccine will be approved very soon and that "every American" will have access to one by April, but CDC Director Robert Redfield said last week that a vaccine would not be available for widespread distribution until next summer or fall.
The survey was conducted among more than 1,200 Americans under the age of 30 between August 28 and September 9, with likely voters as a subset of the group. The poll has a margin of error of 3.2 percentage points.
