Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was reportedly set to meet a veteran GOP strategist Sunday to talk about a possible 2020 run for a vacant Senate seat in Kansas.
Pompeo has yet to make a decision on a bid, though party leaders, including Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, are “aggressively wooing him,” Politico reported.
Pompeo was expected to talk with strategist Ward Baker — who was in the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2016 election cycle — about what a Senate campaign would entail, Politico reported.
But Pompeo is in no rush to decide, the news outlet reported, citing unnamed sources.
In 2016, Pompeo also mulled a GOP primary bid against Kansas Sen. Jerry Moran but decided against it, the news outlet reported.
