As much as Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is a heavy favorite to win the November election over Donald Trump – holding an 88 percent chance to win from the polls, according to FiveThirtyEight.com – history and data show this race is far from over, the website's Henry Enten wrote Wednesday.
"What all of this tells us is that Clinton is probably going to win the presidency but that no Democrat should take it for granted," Enten concluded.
Enten's statistical and historical studies suggest Trump can still make up ground, if not close the gap entirely.
"Candidates have made up 6 to 8 percentage points — roughly the size of Clinton's lead right now in the national polls — before," he wrote. "So there is precedent for a big enough share of the electorate to change its mind that Trump could come back. It certainly wouldn't be easy for Trump — he's the overwhelming underdog, but it's not impossible for him to win."
