Although support for the Republican tax plan has risen since it was signed into law, most voters still aren't behind it, according to the latest poll from Politico/Morning Consult.
The results:
- 45 percent support the plan;
- 34 percent oppose the plan;
- 20 percent are undecided.
Compared to a similar poll taken just before the bill's signing, public opinion hasn't changed much in the nearly one month since the law came into effect.
- 42 percent supported the plan;
- 39 percent opposed the plan;
- 18 percent were undecided.
In the most recent poll, the percentage of voters who supported the bill jumped slightly after respondents were told about the major provisions in the bill, to 47 percent, while opposition to the bill stayed the same at 34 percent.
"While voters are mixed on the tax bill, it is likely that it will still play a role in next year's midterms," Kyle Dropp, Morning Consult co-founder and chief research officer, told Politico at the release of the last survey.
"The economy still tracks as the No. 1 issue when voters head to the polls."
Politico/Morning Consult contacted 1,993 registered voters across the country, from January 11-16, with a margin of error of 2 percentage points.
