"Duck Dynasty" star Phil Robertson stars in a radio ad for a nephew running against "kissing congressman" Rep. Vance McAllister – whose own commercial was released a day earlier to bolster his tainted re-election bid.
Audio of the ad for challenger Zach Dasher was posted by
The Advocate.
"He has been officially and thoroughly vetted by the Robertson clan," Robertson says of his sister's son. Dasher is one of eight candidates running against Louisiana Republican McAllister. A Dec. 6 runoff will be held between the top two vote getters if no one candidate wins a majority in the Nov. 4 primary.
McAllister's television commercial, released Monday, featured
his wife Kelly praising a husband who "owns up to his mistakes."
Neither McAllister nor his wife directly mention the video of the lawmaker kissing a married staffer that has damaged his campaign.
McAllister
sailed to victory in a special election last year against state Sen. Neil Riser after former Rep. Rodney Alexander's resignation – and the Robertson family supported his candidacy.
Last January, McAllister brought Willie Robertson, Phil’s son and the chief executive officer of the family company, to the State of the Union address, The Advocate notes.
The Robertsons and their employees have donated about $60,000 to Dasher’s campaign, the newspaper reports.
