Pete King: 'Disgraceful' That Strzok, Page Had Key FBI Roles

By    |   Tuesday, 17 July 2018 01:29 PM EDT

It's "disgraceful" that FBI counterintelligence agent Peter Strzok and agency attorney Lisa Page were allowed to have key roles in the investigations of President Donald Trump and 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton, even if some committee members questioning Page have found her to be a more credible witness, Rep. Pete King said Tuesday.

"We can't get caught up in who is more credible than not," the New York Republican told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "It's disgraceful that either or both of these were allowed the take part in the investigation, the key role they had, and it puts a cloud over the entire FBI involvement at that stage."

He said he wasn't talking about rank and file agents, but Strzok and Page, who were involved romantically and were sending anti-Trump texts to each other, had "such a bias," even though try to minimize the role they played in the investigations.

"The fact is, they were key players and this again strengthens the president's position regarding any issue of collusion," said King. "But again, it's unfortunate it has gone this far and they can try to talk themselves in or out. She may be a better witness than he is, but neither of them should have been on that investigation and it was a disgrace they were."

King said he is not a member of the House Judiciary Committee, which has been questioning Page behind closed doors, but he said he's spoken to colleagues who have told him that her testimony gave them a better idea of how the Trump investigation had gone forward.

"Again, it requires a lot more investigation," said King."I think it should be more public hearings but done not even to be accusing them of anything. They've accused themselves by their words. We have to find out the damage that they did and how that shaped the course of the investigation."

Page should testify publicly, he added, so the American people can see why Trump is so angry about how the investigation into him and Russian collusion got started.

"I've heard so many witnesses," he said. "I don't see any basis yet for any allegation of collusion between the president and his campaign and Russia."

The investigation into Trump and his campaign was based on the "most flimsy allegations and to use it as an excuse to get a FISA warrant. This has never happened in our history before as far as I know."
