Perry Snags Money, Overflow Crowd in South Carolina

Texas Gov. Rick Perry can count two influential South Carolinians as supporters of his campaign for the Republican presidential nomination. David Wilkins, a former ambassador to Canada, and physician/fundraiser extraordinaire Eddie Floyd have joined the Perry bandwagon, Politico reports.

South Carolina is a coveted state among the presidential aspirants, as its Feb. 28 primary is scheduled to be the nation’s fourth GOP contest next year.

Wilkins received his ambassador appointment in 2005 after serving on top of George Bush’s South Carolina campaign staff in 2000 and 2004. On Friday, Floyd introduced Perry at Carolinas Hospital Systems as "the next president of the United States."

So the Republican establishment in South Carolina appears to be lining up behind the Texas governor.

What’s more, Perry drew an overflow crowd in York County, S.C. Organizer Glenn McCall, the county’s GOP chairman and a Republican National Committee chairman, ended up apologizing for the fact that some who turned out for the event had to be turned away.
