Perry Suggests Romney Sounds like a Liberal

Tuesday, 13 September 2011 10:07 PM EDT

BOSTON — Texas Gov. Rick Perry is suggesting to conservatives in rival Mitt Romney's home state that the former Massachusetts governor sounds like a liberal.

A day after Perry and Romney clashed at a GOP presidential debate, Perry appeared Tuesday night at a dinner hosted by the conservative think tank Bay State. The setting was just a mile from Romney's campaign headquarters in Boston.

Perry says that "other candidates" have used words like "fraud" in talking about Social Security and have compared it to a criminal enterprise. That kind of language appears in a book by Romney.

But now, Perry says, those candidates are changing their tune and, he adds, starting to sound like liberals.

In their debate Monday night, Romney jabbed at Perry for calling Social Security a Ponzi scheme.
