Republican presidential candidate Rick Perry is using a reliable backer to help him gain support in the Florida Straw Poll this weekend: his wife, Anita. In a flier meant for the 3,200 poll participants, Anita Perry cites her husband’s everyman origins and his commitment to tax cuts and job creation,
The Miami Herald reports.
“Rick comes from modest means,” Anita writes of the Texas governor. “His first few years the family didn’t even have indoor plumbing . . . When he wasn’t working on the family farm, Rick was working to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.”
On the policy front, “the principles that have guided Rick as governor are the same principles that will guide him as president,” she says. “Don’t spend all the money. Keep taxes low and regulations fair and predictable. And free up small business to create jobs.”
