Perry Brings Home the Bacon at RGA

If Texas Gov. Rick Perry decides to run for the Republican presidential nomination, it looks like fundraising won’t be an issue. The Republican Governors Association (RGA), of which he is chairman, pulled in $22.1 million in the first six months of the year, an RGA official told Politico.

perry, fundraisingThat’s not bad for Perry and Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, the RGA’s vice chairman, who have occupied their RGA positions only since January.

The $22 million is almost $10 million more than the RGA raised in the first six months of the off-cycle election years of 2007 and 2009. This year’s first-half total also exceeds the full-year total for 2007. As of June 30, the RGA had $16.2 million on hand.

The Democratic Governors Association hasn’t yet revealed its fundraising data.
