House Speaker Nancy Pelosi may have turned into a piñata for Republicans during the 2010 election campaign, but she doesn’t feel defeated. “I’m obviously devastated by the loss we had,”
she tells Politico. But, “Every minute is a new minute to me.”

She expresses excitement about the Democratic House members who have elevated to new positions of power, such as Elijah Cummings who will be the ranking Democrat on the Oversight and Government Affairs Committee.
“You don’t say, ‘I’m the speaker, so I should be the speaker forever,’” Pelosi tells Politico. “I had this opportunity. What did we accomplish with it in the time we had? Now, as leader, how do we protect what we have done? It’s not about an office or gavel. We came here to do a job, and we did the job.”
