House Speaker Paul Ryan "rejects any politicization" of Russia's reported meddling in last month's presidential election, Politico reported.
The Wisconsin Republican's refusal to join the call for a congressional probe of a reported CIA appraisal that found Russia tried to help elect Donald Trump puts Ryan in the middle of a brewing war between Congress and the president-elect, who denies the report.
"Speaker Ryan has said for months that foreign intervention in our elections is unacceptable,” Ryan’s spokeswoman, AshLee Strong, told Politico.
"The speaker cannot comment on or characterize the content of classified briefings but he rejects any politicization of intelligence matters."
She also said Ryan in September "wrote to the states and urged them to enhance the cybersecurity of their election infrastructure," though she wouldn't say if Ryan thinks House committees should investigate the matter of alleged Russian involvement in the election.
