With a House vote on the American Health Care Act expected next Thursday, Speaker Paul Ryan praised President Donald Trump's deal-making skills Friday.
"We're trying to make sure that we address as many concerns as possible without destroying the bill," Ryan said, according to the Washington Examiner. "We're really doing well. We feel very good. The president has been a great closer on this. He has been one who has gotten engaged the last couple of weeks, who's helping with these negotiations, listening to the people, helping bridge the gaps."
Trump touted his abilities to negotiate and close deals during his presidential campaign.
Trump has stood shoulder-to-shoulder with Ryan on the AHCA, trying to drum up support among the GOP in the face of criticism from some of its members. The bill is intended to replace the current Affordable Care Act, which was signed into law by former President Barack Obama in 2010.
Trump met with members of the Republican Study Committee in the Oval Office Friday morning to discuss the healthcare bill and said he is "100 percent behind" the legislation.
