Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort is a possible flight risk and might be ordered to continue wearing a monitoring system, the judge in his federal case said in court Thursday.
According to The Hill, U.S. District Court Judge Amy Berman Jackson said she will think about how best to keep tabs on Manafort ahead of a bond hearing scheduled for Monday. Manafort and his business associate Rick Gates were indicted this week on a range of federal charges.
"The charges are significant and his ties and assets abroad are significant, so I have concerns about flight," Jackson said during a court appearance.
Manafort and Gates were placed on house arrest. Manafort owns several properties and has several passports, it was reported this week. He is being held on an unsecured $10 million bond, which means he would have to pay that amount if he violates court orders or travels out of the country.
"I am very concerned that the bond is not sufficient or that a bond without monitoring would be sufficient," Jackson said. "We don't need to have them under lock and key 24-7, but if they leave we need to know where they went."
Manafort and Gates, along with former Trump campaign foreign policy advisor George Papadopoulos, were indicted as part of special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia investigation.
