Revoking the security clearance for Justice Department employee Bruce Ohr could prove more difficult for President Donald Trump than his move against John Brennan, but it still should be done, Rep. John Ratcliffe said Monday.
Ohr "is a federal employee and there is a process that takes [time] to remove anyone from that position," the Texas Republican, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom."
"We saw that play out with [fired FBI Agent] Peter Strzok. ... I don't know ultimately what will happen with Bruce Ohr but it is right for all of us and the American people to question why someone under this type of conduct would still be employed there."
Ohr, a former associate deputy attorney general, came under fire after it was revealed that his wife, Nellie, had worked as an independent contractor for Fusion GPS and with British spy Christopher Steele to compile a dossier concerning then-candidate Trump.
"He was also benefiting from it financially," said Ratcliffe, pointing out that it has been revealed that Ohr himself was also communicating with Steele. "You have to ask yourself if a person is engaged in that activity, why would they still have security clearances?"
House lawmakers will question Ohr on Aug. 28, and Ratcliffe said that as the hearing will be behind closed doors, there will be an opportunity to question him about the activities of the FBI and the DOJ.
