Democrats Fret Obama's Job Plan Is Inadequate

President Barack Obama reportedly has built his jobs proposal, to be announced in a speech Thursday night, around payroll tax relief. Liberal Democrats want something bigger and bolder — and they fear that the president’s action is a day late and a dollar short, according to The Hill.

Liberals want a huge plan, even if it has no chance of passing. “The president has to bring forward a bold proposal. He can’t start the process by negotiating with himself,” said Sen. Bernie Sanders, an independent from Vermont who caucuses with Democrats.

Obama “needs to say, ‘If we do A, B and C, we can create millions of new jobs,’ and take it to the American people,” Sanders said.

But offering a plan that’s dead on arrival in Congress has risks of its own — depriving the economy of any assistance and perhaps further weakening Obama’s standing.
