Obama Campaign's 'Attack Watch' Propels Political Jokes

By    |   Thursday, 15 September 2011 02:18 PM EDT

President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has started a website where supporters can “fight the smears” by reporting negative comments conservatives make about the president.

But AttackWatch.com isn’t exactly striking fear into the hearts of Obama critics. Rather, it’s just giving them the giggles, with some deriding it as an outright laughingstock.

One prankster even produced parody video and posted it on YouTube.

The parody commercial for Attack Watch is credited to Ezra Dulis of MisfitPolitics:

As for other reactions, on Twitter, where the Obama campaign website has an account using the hashtag “#attackwatch, almost all of the tweets ridicule the site.

“Notify #attackwatch. My website is back up,” tweeted conservative blogger Michelle Malkin.

“#attackwatch, it seems some liberals are falsely claiming that conservatives are freaking out about you. Can you explain what mocking is?” wrote a Twitter user called diggrbiii.

“If someone reports you to #attackwatch, what then? Will your social media accts be suspended? Will you be jailed? What's the point?” tweeted another user.

“In less than 24 hours, Attack Watch has become one of the — if not the — biggest campaign jokes in modern political history,” a contributor to conservative blog The Right Sphere wrote.
