Bipartisan gun control legislation that strengthens background checks is a positive step, National Rifle Association spokeswoman Dana Loesch.
"This is what the NRA has pioneered, this is what the NRA has pushed," Loesch told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program Friday.
Both Republicans and Democrats support the legislation.
Loesch also pointed out that prosecution of felony gun possessions has increased under the administration of Attorney General Jeff Sessions, citing a Daily Caller report that said the Obama administration was lax in the enforcement of gun laws
"I think that the president and I think that Attorney General Jeff Sessions are both owed a lot of credit from people like The Brady Group, because they fear monger and fundraise off these issues, but they're not giving credit where it's due," Loesch said.
She called for states to ramp up their submissions to the FBI's databases that keep records of felony convictions because "the system is only as good as the records submitted to it."
The NRA does not get credit for policies that it pioneered, she continued, "the NRA gets blamed for everything, but the NRA doesn't get credit for when it — for all of the great stuff that it does."
