The U.S. special envoy to North Korea said Thursday that all options are being considered, but that military action is not "close," Reuters reports.
"Our policy is very much for the peaceful resolution of the North Korean nuclear crisis. We've said over and over again that what we want to see is dialogue," Joseph Yun told reporters in Tokyo.
"Having said that, we also have said that all options are on the table and by all options, it has to include military options," he added. "I don't believe we are close to it."
In the State of the Union on Tuesday, President Donald Trump called the North Korean leadership "depraved," according to The Hill, and warned that "North Korea's reckless pursuit of nuclear missiles could very soon threaten our homeland. We are waging a campaign of maximum pressure to prevent that from ever happening."
North and South Korea recently agreed to jointly participate in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, this month, marching together under one flag and including players from both countries on the women's ice hockey team.
