Voters in North Carolina who tried to register through the Department of Motor Vehicles are complaining about not being able to vote, according to a report in The Washington Post.
"It could be thousands, but probably not tens of thousands,"Allison Riggs, senior attorney with the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, told the Post Tuesday night.
Voters called the Election Protection Hotline to report the issue.
The problem, Riggs said, seemed like an easy one to fix with the State Board of Elections issuing new paperwork to allow those voters to use provisional ballots. But, she also said some poll workers were not up to speed with the process and, as a result, turned away those voters without offering them the new forms.
North Carolina has been deemed an important swing state this election cycle with its 15 electoral votes and, the race has proven to be a tight one so far.
The state also had technical issues in Durham and Columbus counties, where voting times were extended until 9 p.m. according to the state’s Board of Elections.
