While former President Donald Trump's campaign advisers are encouraging former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley to leave the race with long example-driven memos, Haley's team is responding with memes.
In an official public memo released Monday, Trump advisers Chris LaCivita and Susie Wiles, wrote, "Nikki is losing to Donald Trump by every metric used to measure political viability."
"In what was supposed to be Nikki Haley's 'best shot' in what was considered a 'must-win' for her campaign, Donald Trump received more votes than any candidate for President has ever received in a New Hampshire Presidential Primary despite the record push to turn out behavioral Democrats who had an opportunity to support one of their own, Nikki Haley," the memo began.
"South Carolina is different than New Hampshire and, as such, poses serious questions about the viability of the Haley campaign."
On Tuesday, Haley campaign manager Betsy Ankney clapped back at the Trump camp with a one-line meme. "Then why is Donald Trump so obsessed with us?" said the post which included an image of "Mean Girls" villainess Regina George, played by Rachel McAdams, quoting a line from the 2004 film.
Recently on an appearance on Newsmax's "American Agenda," Haley spoke with optimism about her campaign despite two consecutive losses, in Iowa and New Hampshire, and looked forward to heading back to her home state.
"We started with 2% in Iowa. We got rid of the fellas. It's just me and Trump in the end. We went to 20% in Iowa. We got 43% in New Hampshire, and now in South Carolina, we want to be stronger than that," Haley said.
The Trump memo concluded, "So, we remain bemused at the hype around the former South Carolina governor. … Lights out, if we do say so ourselves."
While the respective camps dual for verbal takedowns, the latest The Hill/Decision Desk HQ poll shows Trump leading Haley by 30 points with the South Carolina primary now close to a month away.
