Nick Mangold, the former center for the New York Jets, is looking at making a bid to replace retiring Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen, R-N.J., Politico is reporting.
"I had a conversation with him," said Essex County Republican Chairman Al Barlas. "He’s intrigued by the idea. He has to think it over and talk with his wife. After an 11-year playing career and a college career, he’s enjoying being at home with his wife and kids."
Barlas said he has been recruiting Mangold to enter the Republican primary.
"He’s a different candidate," he said. "He gives different name ID."
The Hill noted Democrats have rallied around Mikie Sherrill, a former Navy pilot, who has already launched her campaign.
