Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., has expanded his lead over GOP challenger Rep. Connie Mack to 9 points in his bid for re-election, a new survey by
Public Policy Polling shows.
Among likely voters, Nelson now leads Mack 46 percent to 37 percent, an increase of 2 points from August when he was ahead 45 to 38 percent. However, Nelson’s approval rating is not was 34 percent.
“Bill Nelson continues to look like a pretty strong favorite for re-election,” Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling, said. “He’s not popular, but Connie Mack IV has proven to be an exceptionally weak opponent for him.”
The poll also found that if the election were held today, 47 percent would vote for the Democrat candidate for Congress while 43 would choose the GOP candidate. In late August, 44 percent supported the Democratic candidate and 43 percent the Republican.
The poll also found that Gov. Rick Scott, R-Fla., has a disapproval rating of 48 percent and that if he was up for election today he would lose to a Democrat by 6 points.
PPP surveyed 861 likely Florida voters from September 20th to 23.
