Poll: Nelson Leads Mack in Fla. Senate Race

Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson holds a comfortable 12-point lead over Republican Rep. Connie Mack in Florida’s Senate race, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday.

The poll found Nelson with 53 percent support compared to 39 percent for his challenger.

Nelson was first elected to the Senate in 2000, taking over the seat from his current opponent’s father, Connie Mack IIII. Mack IV has represented Florida’s 14th congressional district since 2005.

The poll of 1,196 likely Florida voters was conducted Sept. 18-24, in cooperation with CBS News and The New York Times. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.9 percent.
