A key member of President Donald Trump's economic team is leaving, White House officials said Tuesday.
Everett Eissenstat, who sits on the National Economic Council, is leaving, Chairman Larry Kudlow told The Wall Street Journal.
"His leadership in advancing strong pro-growth economic policies has been invaluable," Kudlow said in a statement.
White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the Journal: "His command of economic issues, particularly trade, has been an incredible asset that we have all relied upon.
"He will be missed."
Eissenstat, who also serves on the National Security Council, is leaving for a possible future job in the private sector, the Journal reports.
His departure comes after President Donald Trump refused to sign the joint Group of Seven communiqué after their Quebec meeting earlier this month.
Trump left the meeting early, heading to Singapore for his summit with North Korean dictator Kim Jong Un, and Eissenstat stood in for him at the end of the meeting.
He was seen as opposing President Trump's recent tariffs against various countries, instead arguing for the benefits of free trade.
"The international deliberation and the passionate dialogue and discussion has been a critical element of transformative policy," Eissenstat told the Journal in an interview. "I'm really glad to have been part of that debate."
