Calling it a “health issue," House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Democrats will advocate for a vote-by-mail provision to be included in the next coronavirus relief package.
The California lawmaker told MSNBC’s LIVE with Stephanie Ruhle on Monday that it is important to protect the “life of our democracy” during the pandemic.
“In this next bill, we will be supporting vote-by-mail in a very important way. We think it’s a health issue at this point,” Pelosi told Ruhle.
Some states already have turned to vote-by-mail for primary elections. Democrats have been pushing for more vote-by-mail measures to be implemented so people don’t have to risk getting sick while going to the polls.
President Donald Trump is against expanded vote-by-mail options and has asked Republicans to fight the idea.
"You'd never have a Republican elected in this country again," Trump said during a recent appearance on Fox News, referring to vote by mail.
