Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., said she has "always been reluctant" about calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment.
"I've always been reluctant, because I think impeachment is something that really has an impact on the country. So when the facts are clear — the law is certainly clear — when the facts are clear, then this Congress will make a decision in that regard," Pelosi said Friday at a press conference, according to The Washington Free Beacon.
At the conference, Pelosi discussed the meeting between Donald Trump Jr. and a Russian lawyer that has led to allegations of collusion.
"We need to follow the facts, and what did the rest of the family know and when did they know it?" said Pelosi, the House of Representatives' minority leader.
Pelosi said it is possible that an investigation will show no wrongdoing, but that a probe needs to proceed.
"I think the facts will be self-evident. Maybe they will be exculpatory of the president. Maybe they will not. But there is evidence, clear evidence, that we need to know more, and we should not close that path," Pelosi said.
Democratic Rep. Brad Sherman of California introduced articles of impeachment on Wednesday. He said that he hopes the articles trigger an "intervention" at the White House regarding Trump's governing style.
