A blatant conflict of interest has triggered MSNBC and NBC to hire, then fire, a former aide to President Barack Obama — on the same day.
The
Washington Examiner reports that Stephanie Cutter inked a contract to join the sister news networks as a political analyst, was dropped hours after she signed because of a conflict of interest.
But Cutter was axed just hours later as it was revealed she would be overseeing the White House battle to get Merrick Garland, Obama's Supreme Court nominee to replace the late Antonin Scalia, confirmed by a hostile Senate.
Politico Playbook reported Cutter was set to appear on such high-profile programs as "Meet the Press," "NBC Nightly News" and the "Today" show.
"We look forward to Stephanie's insights on our air during this election year, but she will appear as a guest and not as an analyst due to her leadership role in the battle over the President's Supreme Court nomination," NBC said in a statement.
