President Donald Trump should appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Joe Biden, his son Hunter, and their alleged dealings with China, according to former Democrat strategist and White House adviser Dick Morris on Newsmax TV.
Host Grant Stinchfield initially suggested to Morris the naming of a special counsel on Friday night's "Stinchfield."
"I agree with you and so does the president," Morris said. "The difference is the president can make the appointment of special prosecutor and he ought to do it tomorrow."
If President Trump appoints a special counsel, the probe would continue past President-elect Joe Biden's Jan. 20 inauguration.
"Legally, you can fire the special counsel anytime you like but politically he can’t touch him," Morris said. "I mean, that's why Trump couldn't fire [Robert] Mueller, as much as he wanted to. And he should have, he could have, you just can’t do it politically.''
Morris explained that a special prosecutor can pursue "anything his peripheral vision finds." The former adviser to Presidents Trump and Bill Clinton suggested one issue that should be included in any investigation.
"Chinese hacking of this election," Morris said. "The Director of National Intelligence has indicated that the intelligence community finds that there's significance evidence of foreign intervention in this election."
If an investigation of Hunter Biden were to implicate Joe Biden, that could lead to Vice President-elect Kamala Harris ultimately becoming president — something Republicans should not worry about long-term, according to Morris.
"If Joe Biden is impeached, the Democrats will never win reelection in '24," Morris said.
