Stephen Moore, who was President Donald Trump's pick to fill a seat on the Federal Reserve, over the weekend said he was done with CNN, comparing the news outlet to a restaurant where someone contracts salmonella.

“They basically begged me to come over from Fox and they begged me to sign a renewal for my contract,” he said during an interview with WLAM over the weekend. “Then literally, the day after I was announced for the Fed, they turned their knives against me. They were vicious and vile.”

Moore, a former conservative economic commentator for CNN, dropped out of the Federal Reserve race in early May following fierce criticism of his views.

Not only was Moore under fire for his economic and political views, but news sites highlighted his messy divorce, a $75,000 IRS income tax lien and past statements, including columns in which he belittled women and his former wife, as problematic.

Several Republican senators agreed, saying Moore would have difficulty winning confirmation.

Moore later called the media coverage a “smear campaign” and in his withdrawal letter to President Donald Trump blamed “the unrelenting attacks on my character,” which “have become untenable for me and my family and 3 more months of this would be too hard on us.”
